I knew this would happen!

I will now have to wait until 67 to claim my state pittance.

Why this is necessary when we already have one of the lowest state pensions in Europe utterly baffles me.

I am very sorry you have been living on an asteroid these last 4 years. when you saw the effects of your beloved Labour's policies of spending every penny received, and then spending yours, mone and our children's pennies on their stupid Quangos and 'initioatives' that left nothing of any good behind.

They spent the family silver and robbed the next generation (not to metion actually RAIDING our private pension funds) and you are blaming the tories??? ARe you Mad or just intellectually challenged????

Major World Economists (a huge number) have already said that all the Western world hould not recive pension until the age of 70? Yet our govt is allowing you to retire at 67 (what about the french? Germas? Greeks?) Did you know that some 'free' european health serivces include feessuch as the French one?

The previous govt Spent all the money coming in and made sure we wouldn't have money to spend now (either by accident or design- my guess is on accident). Get over it, it isn't the Tories. Spend your Vitriol on who got us here- Labour.

Personally I think anyone who works within a physically demamnding job should be able to retire at 65 as long as they have paid their full NI stamps. It is perverse to have rules where there is no allowance for wear and tear on the body.I agrre there are highly stressful jobs that take their toll but these are few and far between compared to construction/engineering/Agriculture etc ........

And what was the living style of these workers? How many cigs did they smoke, how many pints down the pub everynight, how much fat did they eat?

Most of those early age cancers/heart disease were built on the back of life choices they made in smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating a poor high fat/low in nutrients diet. None of which should entitle them to a better pension. There is a reason we tax 2 of those 3 vices highly to pay for the early death rates and huge NHS spending they cause.

I'm going to give you the arthritus thing, but that too can be helped by proper diet and health care and using things like knee pads which many consider to be 'sissy/poncy' and wont' use them to be seen as more virile.

My partner still has 7 years and 7 months to go to BSP age and he is now 57 - ergo, he will receive his state pension at 65.

Please would you change your post as the new age levels do not affect you and your post can be seen as confusing to people. You should currently be on state pension.

I also wonder why you say you will have to drawdown £50,000+ to live on until you are 67? Please would you explain? The state pension is around £5000 a year not £50,0000!

Also, regarding the hysterical term 'Tory Scum', could you please let us know who it was who first raised the state pension age?

Finally, regarding the hysterical term 'Tory Scum', could you please let us know which outgoing cabinet minister left the note for his successor: 'There is no more money'?

Please would you update your post to be factually correct, rather than this ridiculous rant?

The last Labour government announced the increase of the State pension age to 68. The only issue is how quickly it will be raised. So all this "Tory scum" stuff is rather stupid. And the reason is (i) the relentless increase in lifespan, plus (ii) the ruin of the public finances (by Labour, as it happens).
Free the dunston one next time too.

I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous answer.

    ;)

My post concerned "income tax rates". Not the "tax take".

The previous ranter was on about income tax:
the problem is that this Tory-Liberal govenment is ideologically committed to low income tax as a kind of religious doctrine

When it was Labour who reduced the basic rate of income tax to lowest rate in recent history - 20%, and maintained the lowest top rate in recent history - 40% - for all but one month of their 13 years in power.

But I don't expect facts to get in the way of clueless rants...

I was still agreeing with you, just repeating the bit about someone who could start a thread with "Tory scum", etc.

Does a physically demanding job cause cancer then? News to me - I thought that exercise could help prevent cancer?

Arthritis maybe, but that's not going to kill you...

One should no longer tie the retirement ages to State Pension. I am firm believer that one should save enough money both into ISAs and Pension to retire at earlier age. :p That why I got a plan to retire at 55 for I personally felt that it is doubtful that I will live to see 65 [I am currently working in a factory and do lot of pulling and pushing every days].

Hopefully the pension schemes ages would not go up to 60. Originally, my plan is to retire at 55 with pension equal to minimum wage but according to calculator, that would require 50% contribution so I gave up on that target. Nevertheless, I went with 25% contribution instead which seems to produce 60% of the minimum wage instead.

Frankly, I have no intention to work until state retirement age thus started to save into pension and ISAs. :) Lastly, I am firm believer that sooner or later, the government will dismantle State Pension and move everyone into DC pension scheme.

100% hand on heart honest answer, swear on my childrens lives ?...None of them smoked(ever)life time non smokers , 3 were slim built, fit racing snakes and the 4th was over weight. When at work none of them ate junk food, mostly sandwiches, salads, pasta etc but I would have guessed if they ate properly at work they wouldn't have a diet of junk food at home.
Alcohol wise they were all a "pint a month " guys and only ever drank if they went out for a meal so rarelly drank. I am genuinely really shocked to have lost 4 work mates in that time and none of them abused their bodies,no vices at all.
You may be falling for the typical stereotyping of builders , all fat, drinking, overweight slobs and from my experience thats about 15 years out of date.

Arthritis may be helped with a change in diet but this does not benefit many.
