Angry as anything

Here am i trying to reduce our debt soo having both got new jobs but obviously not getting paid till end of month and not receiving any housing benefit yet since December i needed a little help.

Sooo i went to my friendly bank where i asked if i could have my overdraft extended temporarily until my wages went in as i had missed a loan payment too.

'Oh well' she said 'first of all you only just had an overdraft' - i said 'pardon that was 8 months ago ,' she goes 'well no if you go over your limit (which i admit i did for one day by mistake) we class that as a temporary overdraft now and charge you £24 (which they did) sooo she says that means if i give you a top up on your overdraft we will charge you £25 because you had one last month! '

So i said 'thats a bit off, '

'Well she said i can consolidate your loan, overdraft and credit card so your paying off less a month and then youll have your card and overdraft to spend again!' ( oh great thanks for that give me more to pay out each month)

' Erm im trying to cut my debt'

'Oh well itll cost you less in the long run - pointing out these figures to me i looked and noticed that this would cost me an extra 4k in interest over another 5 years!!!!!!'

I said 'yes but look at the interest I d rather pay the £25 it works out a lot cheaper '

'mumble mumble' from the advisor obviously annoyed that she couldnt temp me into yet more debt trap and probably get a commission

She said 'well lets see if it will accept a increase ' tappy tap tappy

'Nope it wont allow it cant do anything for you goodbye!!'

and thrust the card into my hand rudely and sent me on my way.

Not even an attempt to help me or figure out a way of sorting this out.

Is it any wonder things are like they are when you go to your bank for help and the cheapest way of getting that help, yet theyed rather give you huge loan and charge the earth in interest than help a customer who genuinely wants to save money

Absolutely disgusted with banks these days sometimes it feels like a uphill struggle

Claim the bank charges back, and in your letter, explain that you looked into this when the advisor at the branch *name rude woman* explained that you payed to have an overdraft increase and you were unaware that you had asked for one on that occassion.

  • yeah ive been drafting a letter - for what good it will do just makes me mad that people are willing to get you into more debt when your sat there saying you want to pay it off and dont want any more

I get fed up of my local bank phoning up asking if i've had my accounts reviewed lately. I haven't been in for a couple of years - I try to fob them off. Everything is ticking along okay but all they say is 'oh, there's loads of new deals on at the moment and we want to see if we can save you money'. The last time I went to get a review I ended up being advised to consolidate my cc's and loans, and ended up with £14k added to my mortgage.

I would like to think I have wised up a little since then. I've also since then, taken my mortgage elsewhere.

Banks aren't there to help you, they are there to make money off you. Its their job.
