Can I sell outside my house??

Hi there,
I really love to bake and live right by a football ground.
Because of this i've had the idea of selling some of my baked goods such as cupcakes and pastires when there is a game on as we get hundreds of people streaming past our house and i could do with a bit of extra income!
Although this is an appealing thought, i'm not sure of any legalities involved. Does anyone know if i would need to have my kitchen inspected and approved and the costs involved in this? Also, am i just allowed to sell on the pavement outside my house or on my small area of patio or is this illegal without some kind of licence?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you do it to make money I would expect you need a food hygiene cert.
Other than that you will need to pay tax if you go over the threshold0 -
Yes you can, but as the last post said all of that does apply. The Council can refuse to allow this, but it can take them over 12 months to close you down, and you need to be reported first.
So all seems okay to me, why not try and see, if you had a charity and business agreement going I am sure there will be no problem.

Check out your home insurance, some state non-business only use on the property, so you might have to change that to protect yourself - just incase someone falls etc....0

if you sell food and want to be strict then your taling public liability insurance, hth0

We went toan airshow this year and people were selling hot dogs and cans of soft drinks from their garden as it was in the main crowded area - it was even mentioned on the local radio station!"If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy":j0

It has to be better then the dirty ecoli vans that reside outside most football grounds these days if they can get away with it then do it0

First things first you need to read this:
Many food law breaches are offences. Not registering your business etc are offences: I suggest you read this page http://www.food.gov.uk/enforcement/enforceessential/startingup/:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
And also it does not take 12 months to close a business down.
I have been on visits where we have closed them on the first visit they had ever had, due to standards being poor. That said, the power to prohibit the owner selling food anywhere in the UK can take a little longer. I guess the OP does not want this on her record for later life! Better to practice good food safety standards then you will have nothing to worry about.
on the flip side, a nice high scores on the doors inspection will help your business. On the scores on the doors app, I search my local businesses of 4 and above. If I was searching for a cake maker, I would look for the ones with the highest hygiene rating. If scores on the doors isnt on your area yet, it will be at some point in the foreseeable....
If you provide safe food you will have nothing to worry about in the way of food inspections.
However, you may need a license from street trading/markets inspector. These wont give you a license as far as Im aware if you do not have PL insurance. So you will have to get that. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Sounds like you are on a winner there mate, especially if you have the common sense to do the cakes in team colours.
As long as no one grasses you up you will be OK. If any neighbours get funny you could always cut them in on a percentage to keep officialdom away.
I also lived near a football ground some time ago. My daughter and a university friend used to stand outside the house and do face paintings in team colours, unbelievable how much they made each Saturday.0 -
Council will refuse permission as no doubt your neighbours will not like any extra noise or litter.0
