Anyone dealt with The Solar Solutions Company

Hi All,

Had a visit from a nice chap from The Solar Solutions Company earlier this week. Caught him putting a leaflet in my door. As I was interested in the solar PV, I invited him in for a chat.

Now I can't quite afford to put up a system myself but would love to benefit from the FiT. He explained about a 50:50 share option. i.e half owned by me half by them. Everything is looked after and basically I would pay 50% of what the system would cost me!

Has anyone had dealing with these guys https://www.solarsolutionscompany.co.uk

I am keen to proceed, but at the same time want to do some more research.

Plus I have family interested and these guys do a reward for recommend a friend ( so if it works out for me and someone else I can a cash incentive. So anyone here wants to contact them we could split a recommendation - better off in our pockets right)

So anyone got any feed back on these guys, would be greatful

Cheers

    Hi

Before anyone would comment you'll need to let us know what the 50% share of the price would be ..... I'd hazard a guess that their 50% price would be quite close to the 100% price that others would quote and there's also the question about the terms of the contract you would need to enter into ..... sounds like a potential 'can-of-worms' to me

OK, the details I have are brief as I have the guy coming back at the end of the week to go more in depth.

The system I could get is a 3.69 kw system. cost £15.894 if bought out right but as a share £7947. We would both get 50% of the feed in tariff.
plus i'd obviously get to use what I generate.

I'll have more details when the guy comes back - didn't have long enough to speak to him so thought it best to get him to come back when I was totally free.

    Hi

Initial view .... £8k seems to be a little steep for 50% of what should be an £11.xk system ... looks like you're paying their materials, scaffold & labour costs and they forgo their usual profit for half of your FiT payment, good earner for them !

If you can afford £8k, can you afford £11k ? .... if not get a smaller system for £8k, somewhere around a 2kWp system, and keep 100% of your FiT, you'll be better off ....

I'd be interested to know where the £11k is from? Does that include installation cost and maintenance cost? That way I can compare a bit more before the guy comes back.

    Hi

You should be able to ge a 4kWp system supplied & installed for not a lot over £12k at the moment, cheaper in some areas, so a 3.7kWp system should be somewhere below this, so somewhere between £11000 and £12000 (£11.xk) would be a good target ... even Te5co advertise a 3.91kWp system at the moment for £11.6k (incl 20% discount), but a local installer will probably supply a better tailored solution.

Maintenance, repair and replacement would be your responsibility .... but you will be getting hundreds of pounds more a year in FiTs to pay for any eventualities ;) .... but then again, what's the arrangement with the 50/50 ownership split ?. Have a look at what people think of 'rent-a-roof' schemes on the threads on this forum... you'll probably need to have the same kind of legal agreement drawn up for a 50/50 scheme, so it might be a good idea to talk to a solicitor if you go for this .... will the installer pay your legal fees ?? ... Also, who claims the FiT payment ?, I'd guess that the way it would work is that you would read the 'Total Generation' meter and submit the reading and the payment would be made to your installer, then some time later they would send you a cheque ? ... who is responsible for changing FiT partners if this was necessary ? ... worms, worms, worms .......

i have known a few instalations have been completed by them and there scheme was on the BBC, my understanding is that they are the sales and funding body but MCS accredited and take no money (unlike those featured on watchdog) but engauge with a very reputable installation company that deliver a very good service, the 50:50 deal is a good one if you cant find the money for a full system, however my advice is borrow the extra money and use the FIT to pay it back work out how much the longterm loan and compare with the estimated returns, but beware companies should use SAP when predicting these and if you are in the SW the system should be greater due to the weather in the south compared to the north of the UK.

    Thanks for the advice guys!

I had the guy back Friday. Explained to him that I'd prefer to buy rather than share so I could get all the benefits!

The price was around the £12k mark ( can't remember without looking).

I did say that would not be possible just yet, but i'd be back in touch soon.

The guy was really polite, left me some additional info. I was quite shocked actually - thought d2d people were pushy but this experience was quite the opposite - so i'm inclined to do it, but when I can afford it!!

He did also mention again about the referral scheme - so if anyone does want to go vis them for free or buy systems drop me a message and we could split the referral fee.

    Happy Days

Ok, Now got a 4kw system on my roof. All mine, glad I got this when the tariff was at its best. The guys from The Solar Solutions Company came to see me on day of installation to make sure it went smoothly.

While he was here I asked him if they would still be doing free's and he said Yes! And for at this moment they are giving people a payment of upto £150 to have a free system? I laughed. Paid to have a free system - he said its true. But would only say its for at least the next week (up 13/11) and not sure if it goes on past that.

I have my own anyway so looking forward to my Fit!! And not the same one as when my energy bill arrived LOL!!
