Can Halifax steal my salary because of bad debt
I'm currently in debt to Halifax for £5,700 loan and £2,700 credit card. I am using a debt management frim and I have just informed Halifax of this.
Problem is my bank account is still with them. This is where my salary is paid and all my direct debits.
Are they the sort of people to keep all my salary to pay some of the debt do you think?
If so, how can I open another bank account with bad history?
Also, it's in joint names so can they steal my partners salary as well?
Advise greatly appreciated.

They can take the money out of your account if you are in arrears on other products- i don't think it is called stealing though!!
You could most likely open a very basic account elsewhereOverdraft - £1,300 5%
Overdraft - £3000 5%
Halifax C/C - £3,200 0% 08/07
Virgin C/C - £1,500 0% 06/07
Mortgage - £61,214.68 overpaid £700
Olymic Challenge - £597.240 -
Yes they can offset money from accounts in your name to pay another. If you have a joint current account where your partners salary is paid into then they can take money from that account, but not his/her sole account (as long as his/her name is not on the loan or credit cards)
I would also say about getting a basic account elsewhere0 -
Yes - get out fast!0

Hi, Yes they can take the money. I know this because they the Halifax decided that they would remove my overdraft facility what was £5000 and when my salary got paid into the account it just got "swallowed".
After speaking to the CCCS they adviced to open another account unrelated to my debts. Id advice you do the same thing.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts
