Have you tried with a Brillo Pad? (It doesn't dull the pyrex like you think it would)

I soak mine in a strong solution of soda crystals and very hot water, then use a brillo for the more stubborn bits.

I just leave it to soak overnight with a bit of washing powder in it and some very hot water. Comes off really easily in the morning. Not that I am a bad cook or anything(!) but I have done this a couple of times and it has worked for me!!!

Try that oven cleaner that comes with a plastic bag - Ovenpride I think it's called.

I love it. You put it on the oven walls and take the shelves out and put them in the plastic bag with some of the solution. Leave them to soak over night and then just rinse off.

My shelves were atrocious with burnt on grease and carbon etc and it brought them up a treat with no elbow grease involved. It also works wonders on the glass door so is perfectly safe in a pyrex dish!

Get ammonia from Boots or local chemist - put ammonia in dish that is stained - then cover dish with plastic bag and put outside for a few hours or overnight. When you then rinse it then it should have removed all nasties.

Do not inhale- do not mix with bleach - or you get poison gas - keep stuff away from kids or pets - but it works like magic!

Just looked up the price for Oven Pride ...

    Oven Pride Cleaning System 500ml
    Price: £5.49

.... I don't wish to be rude, or offend, but how can that be a "Money Saving" option? I wouldn't pay that amount for a pyrex dish - let alone a product to clean it with!

Its £2.49 in Wilkinsons and I never pay more then £3 for it.

As for money saving, well a box will be enough to do a double oven twice and only takes 10 mins to apply and 10 mins to rinse off which saves me a hell of a lot of time and you cant put a price on my time :D

Leave it overnight, upside down on the grass in your garden! Seriously, this works, I don't know how, but it does.

If you don't want your neighbours to think you're weird put bio- powder in and hot water and leave it. You do have to leave it for a long time if it is really gunged on. Try leaving it all night and all day and it will come off easily.

I've never paid more than £3.00 for it, infact just at the end of summer asda were selling the BBQ pride (same stuff but different name) for £2.00 each so I bought a few boxes.

As someone has already said it's quick & easy to put on and off therefore leave me time to find any other money saving ideas! Plus I hate cleaning ovens - especially the shelves so anything that makes the mindnumbing task easier is worth it to me!

I take your point, yet, on the time issue, didn't you already mention in your earlier post that you "leave it on overnight" and rinse off? Well, that is just what others are recommending when it comes to much cheaper products/ideas - leave overnight and rinse off.

Naturally, time is precious, mine too - after all I *earn* my living by using my time and money wisely and not throwing it at businesses aimed at robbing me of it on the pretext of saving me time.

A few seconds wiping down your warm oven before throwing away the washing up water used to clean your plates after each meal takes mere seconds (not 10mins to put on and a further 10mins to take off = 20 minutes!).

I shall refrain from mentioning the longer term environmental issues ;)
