As he had a P60 for the job he must have been doing this at the tax year end, I assume that the spell on jobseekers for which he had a P45 was before this job, but was there any employment between 6/4/10 and going on jobseekers?

Sorry, yes, there was one day's work for which he was paid £48, but I sent the P60 for this to them as well. Sorry forget to mention that :o

    Oops. Just reread your reply.

He was employed 6/4/10 till 23/06/2010 I think. Then he did one day's work for £48. Then he went on Jobseekers until 06/09/2010. Then his old job rehired him and he's been there since!

Are theae earnings, the 6/4/10 to 23/6/10 and the £48 included in the figures that you checked or are they just the P60 and the jobseekers P45?

The work from April to 23rd June is included, but I forgot about the £48.28, so it takes the total up to £9151.36. The tax and national insurance figures are correct. The P60 of £8526.98 was for both the period 06/04/10-23/06/10 and 06/09/10-05/04/2011 because he went back to the same employer. Hope that is a bit more clear. Sorry about that!

You need to check if this P60 does include the 06/04/10-23/06/10 earnings it certainly should not have been included.

There was a break in this employment and jobseekers was paid so if the P60 includes the earnings for 06/04/10-23/06/10 then it should also include the jobseekers and the code would almost certainly be cumulative. The 06/04/10-23/06/10 and the jobseekers earnings should appear in the previous employment section of the P60.

If the employer has advised the tax office of leaving on 23/6/10 (was there a P45 for this) and included these earnings in the P60 then the tax office will be counting them twice.

    Oh dear...ok.
Going to need to check the maths on it.
Bit scared about tax credits as well now...argh!

My OH doesn't know if he got a P45 :(

Under previous employment on the P60 it says 0. I have a feeling OH never took in his P45 from jobseekers to his HR department. *sigh*

You need to get out all the payslips to check what is going on.

I suspect that either there are earnings and tax from 06/04/10-23/06/10 which need to be added into the calculation or your employer has included the 06/04/10-23/06/10 earnings wrongly in the P60 so the tax office is counting them twice.

Thanks for all your help chrisbur, never realised this P60 doesn't cover the whole year. It says it's the whole year's earnings and no previous earnings, but after checking the payslips this is obviously not the case. Feel really stupid :(

Now really really worried about tax credits, as we sent them this P60. Don't know what to do :(
