Banishing blocked pores with jojoba oil!

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been covered in the past. I've got awful blocked pores, mainly on my forehead and cheeks and I've been trying everything to get rid of them, harsh scrubs/creams don't seem to make any difference. Rather than blackheads they look like little bumps under the skin so my skin never really looks smooth and make -up doesn't really cover them up. The little bumps have a tiny hole in them and I can sometimes extract a hard lump of sebum from them, (yuck! sorry if that's TMI :o) they often breakout into full blown spots.

I googled 'blocked pore treatments' and jojoba oil came up straight away with various impressive reviews. I'd love to know if anyone had tried this method of getting rid of blocked pores/blackheads and how it was.

Also if anyone can recommend a good oil and where to buy it that would be very helpful, in fact, any tips on how to get rid of these nasty pores would be great!

    Oooh that sounds really nasty!

I haven't had this happen myself, I've had blocked pores from other products but none that produce the same side effects as you have had. I found the best way was to stop using the products concerned and cleanse, tone and moisturise followed by weekly exfoliation. Nothing that time wouldn't deal with itself.

But if its (what I think your talking about but not sure) blackheads, then you may need something a little different and this really depends on what your skin is like, age, issues with ingredients and price bracket. I'd read up on blackheads and DO NOT PICK! They can easily scar and picking doesn't address the problem, can make things worse and don't look at all pretty if done often (once or twice you could get away with but its still a risk of scarring and having red skin for a while).

Have you seen the Nude cleansing facial oil? I really loved this. Its really expensive (I got a trial from a magazine a while back) if I had the cash I'd buy it. Kiehl's also have a good oil though its for moisturising treatment overnight rather then a cleansing oil. My mother swears by Elemis.

I have seen and heard others talking about using olive oil but tbh this scares me too much to try! Each to their own and hope you find something.
  • Hi Charliezoo - these sound a bit like milia. Have they got a whitehead? If so you shouldn't squeeze them or try and "pop" them yourself as they can become infected and sore. I would visit a beauty salon for advice and treatment. Hope that helps.

    Hiya, thanks fot the advice.

Definately not milia, I don't get the little whiteheads, they're blocked pores that often become acne spots. They're similar to blackheads but I don't get that characteristic black 'dot', they seem to just be a little dark bump under the skin that I can extract with steam but they just seem to come back.

I've had facials and the therapist recommended masks and scrubs, the usual treatments for congested skin and blocked pores but they never make any real difference.

I think my skin produces a lot of sebum so something that prevents this production would really help. I've heard jojoba oil is good as is mimicks sebum and so somehow prevents the skin producing so much of its own. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has tried this or any other treatments that might help me.

you might find it useful. The upshot seems to be it helps some, it makes others worse!
