mortgage search tool for brokers whats it called

I went to a mortgage broker to get info for a selfcert mortgage. He pulled out his laptop and went thought all the lenders. He recommended I use a certain lender.
The thing is I feel that it’s just his opinion and I wondered if I could get hold of the search tool that the broker was using so I could do my own in-depth search..

  • Its called a sourcing system. the two major players are Mortgage Brain and Trigold. Both have subscription fees of around £50 a month. you could try https://www.moneysupermarket.com

    Hope that helps

mortgage brain or trigold are the most commonly used.

Not available to those without FSA authorisation and I think the contract to buy would be at least 12 months.

The research outputs the lenders in order so all you have to do is ask to see the research. However, number 1 on the list wont always be the best one. There maybe underwriting issues which the software cant take into account when looking at lending terms (rates and charges).

  • hey thanks for the speedy replies.... so guess no freebees then

hey i just found a demo yehhhhh
  • The whole point of using a broker is to trust their opinon. Would you quibble the opinion of an electrician? Plumber? your mechanic? Your solicitor?

The chances are, even if you could get your hands ona broker sourcing system, you wouldn't understand how to use it properly

  • yehh true m mamma, but there are still dodgy tardesmen out there that want to cut corners
  • Why not get the opinion of another fee's free broker? Just make sure you tell them EXACTLY the same thing you said to the first broker, and make sure they don't credit score you

  • There's nothing wrong with asking for a second opinion, its a very sensible thing to do, but don't expect solid answers on this site from the brokers, as we are not allowed to recommend specific lender products for our own protection.

Another decent site for searching for mortgages is https://www.mform.co.uk

It's new so guess not many people have heard of it.

Is probably the best "commercial" site, but they are still (essentially) a broker, not least in that they plan to make money by passing enquiries to L&C. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=314183

IMHO I think smythe is correct that mform is worth a look as their info is provided by what I consider to be the best with with the least influence exerted on their results http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/searches/default.aspx

A partner site to London & Country. The software looks great, takes a little amount of time to complete.

Results are poor, but it does give L&C contact option at the end.
