me and my partner just recently ended our relationship but neither of us will leave our home which is mortgaged he is currently sleeping in the 3rd bedroom and wants to split the bills and the mortgage between us both so he can still be with our kids. we have a joint claim of tax credits at the moment but as we are no longer an item could i claim my ctc and income support as i am not working and he claim his wtc? if we pay half each to the mortgage will i get help towards my half as i am currently a fulltime mum?

You cannot get help with the mortgage payments from the DHSS for the 1st 10 months of a claim. ( A friend on mine has just found this out to her horror.)
I think you would be best to seek advice from the CAB as you are in a difficult position.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

you will probably still be seen as a couple, I dont know about the tax credit side, but for IS purpose you would have to prove that you are no longer together, even then I dont see how they would allow it as it could be open to abuse with loads of couples pretending they arent together any more when they are (not saying thats what you are doing).
definately visit the CAB and they will advise you, you can press for your partner to leave the home and you take on the house
