mortgages for agency workers
caravaning
my son has worked in the same job for 18 months as an agency worker. he recently applied for a mortgage and he thought every thing was ok then after about 6 weeks he has now been told that he cannot have the mortgage because he is a temporary worker. he has paid out approx 2000 pounds and no one said until now that there was a problem. basically he has lost his money and his new home. can any one advise me is there anything that can be done the 2000 pound was used as a deposit of 500 to hold the plot as it was a new house , money used for a mortgage adviser (thats a laugh) and also he had to pay extra for tiles and doors etc this came to nearly £900 but he paid a deposit of £500. If anyone is interested the mortgage company was the HALIFAX.

Did he apply directly, i.e not through a broker?
Which lender was it?
£2000 is a hell of a lot of money for a failed application. What was this?
If he has had continuous employment for 18 months as you state he may be in with a chance assuming he can get confirmation from the agency of ongoing contracts.
As has been asked, was the employment status the only reason?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
