Hi all, don't know if anyone can help me??
I have been signing on at the jobcentre since 25th August and was told I am not entitled to contribution based JSA as I had not paid enough NI during tax years ending 2004 & 2005. (partner works so won't get income based)
I received a letter today from HM revenue & customs which said I had not paid enough NI would I like to pay now etc.. However it says I am 36weeks short. My P60 clearly states I worked all of that year and I earnt over 15grand, when I contacted them they said there have been some errors.
The previous year I did have a couple of months out of work but still earnt over 7grand that year.
The jobcentre have sent all this info off to the relevant people and are looking into this for me. I just wondered if anyone on here thinks it is likely I am entitled? Does anyone know how much NI contributions must have been paid to qualify?? No one will gove any answers and it could tae months to hear anything back.
many thanks

iirc you have to have earned over £4000 and paid NI on it to qualify as afully paid year
might be worth checking hmrc.gov.uk for exact details.0 -
Thanks real1314
I have looked online at a few different sites but could not find the amount you need to have earned for a year. If it is over 4000 then I have definetly done this.0 -
Yes it does sound like you are entitled and as it is a Benefit case it should be treated as priority and you should hear the outcome in weeks rather than months.0

I earned £4954.50 during 2004-5 tax year and it counted as a fully qualyifing year (I have had a Pension Forecast in which it is counted).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Thanks all of you, It's sounding promising then and glad to hear it could be weeks and not months. I wonder how many people are out there who have been denied things who are in a lot more need than me!
It will be good news if I get it, luckily though I have found a couple of really good jobs to apply for that will actually leave me some money after paying tax and childcare so fingers crossed!!0 -
My friend's son changed jobs recently and received a letter stating that he hadn't paid enough national insurance in certain years even though he was working full time during that period. After several phone calls they admitted a lot of errors had been made recently and that letters were going out even when people were up to date with contributions so make them double check.0
