I sent it this morning and have just received a telephone call inviting me for an interview :)
    Excellent - good luck :)
  • Wow, that was quick! That's brilliant. Good luck!

Isn't that what companies use typists for (assuming the post being applied for isn't a typing role)?
How many companies do you know that provide typing services to all it's employees these days?
As I said in a later post though, it does depend on what type of job you're applying for.

If they don't then I'd imagine the least they would have would be template letters to be filled in. In 30 years or so of working in an office I have never had to put into practice the letter formating I learnt at school.
  • I do this aswell

Yes I do this and it's what we expect when receiving aplications as we print the CV and Cover letters together so it's easier if they are attachments (either a single doc or two, I prefer the former).

    Quick update:
Interview went well. I was the first person they interviewed, interviewing today and tomorrow so should find out if I made it to the second interview stage on Wednesday.

A tip: if you find a job you want, apply for it as soon as possible rather than waiting until nearer to the closing date. The job advert for this role states the closing date is 30th September.

Thank you for taking time to reply to thread :)
  • I wish you continued good luck with this. Look forward to an update on Wednesday.

Thanks for the tip, that's really useful to know.

Good luck with the 2nd interview. Lesson learnt for me too, I've always just made the email the covering letter.

In 25 years of working in an office have never had a typist pool, and often templates have to be created by postholders. I guess it all depends on the role, and the type of organisation.

It astounds me how many people cannot write a letter and lay it out properly however.

For this scenario I would have accepted either a covering email or a covering letter attached. I am also astounded at how many people do neither, especially when applying via online sites. I am left second guessing why they even want to work for us (mass recruitment at moment, over 1000 CVs!) It isn't that hard to stand out, bizarrely, by getting the basics right..

I've never had a typist pool either. Just worked in smaller offices with the typists working alongside everybody else.

As regards templates, how can an organisation expect to have consistency if everybody (no matter what their role) is doing their own template rather than using a standard format?
