  • I take what I want to eat usually out of the freezer the night before and put it in the fridge tonight I am having some dover sole that I got ages ago reduced so I never took it out until this morning (only do that with fish ) I don't think I could have as minimilist fridge as that lady as I love adding relish's and pickles to my meals .Last week I managed to get (as I was in the area) from Asda's a jar of carrot and coriander relish for 64p reduced as they were selling it off.Gorgeous on salad, jacket spud, almost anything I wish I had bought more than one jar.I do like to spice food up a bit so I will probably have a dollop on the fish tonight as well.I also keep OJ and cold drinks in the fridge as I hate anything drink that isn't really cold.Apart from a hot cuppa of course.I peel my spuds once a week on a Sunday morning and put them in cold water which I change daily I have done this for over 45 years as I HATE peeling spuds so once a weekI have a peeling and prepping marathon.I also do carrots and other veg this way too so they are ready to chuck in a saucepan when wanted in the evening As I do my DGS's childcare and don't get in until gone 6.30 at night its a lot easier if I only have to cook the food and not stand prepping for ages it means I can sit down with a glass of wine whilst my food is cooking far more civilised :):)
  • thanks for the simplybeingmum link, have had a look and will read properly later. the minimalist fridge a bit too frightening for me, and not my style, as the top shelf of my fridge is stored things to make nice food (jam, mustard, butter, spread, curry paste, ginger preserve, mayo, tomato sauce, tahini....).

i do a mix of menu planning main meals, buying unplanned bargains and fancied things as i go along, i love to cook and preserve and freeze portions we are not going to use within a couple of days. I am a bit of a hoarder and a couple of times have tried (and am currently trying) to use up the 'spare food' stored in the spare room rather than go buy more of that or something else. (my kitchen is tiny so not much room to store food there - just one double cupboard not big enough for me!) This week i have 'used up' porridge oats which have been around forever, by making cereal bars for lunchboxes, and currently am not buying any storecupboard stuff unless it is preplanned.

i shop at mr t and lidl as they are the local shops to me, and end up shopping most days even though i aim not to. this week have popped into mr t twice for extra sugar and white wine vinegar, as been given pears and busy cooking and preserving to have goodies on the shelf for the winter. Thanks for the thread, been interesting finding out what everyone does
