I have this condition and have tried lots of different treatments including Nizoral and Betnovate from the GP but it gets better for a few weeks but then comes back again , its driving me bonkers it itches so much I'm sure I scratch in my sleep as its always sore in the morning .. I try not to wash my hair everday but its hard when its so itchy, just wonder if anyone can suggest anything else to try... I know I need to go back to the GP and I will but thought someone might have a suggestion to treat it myself or at least stop the itching... I've tried baby oil, and other creams but nothing has worked.. it hasn't spread just a small patch at the back of my scalp..

I'm not sure if this will work for your condition, but I had a really itchy scalp it was flaking a lot and my scalp was almost scab like. I used the Body Shop Ginger anti dandruff shampoo. Haven't itched it since! Go in and ask for a sample to try, they usually give enough for 1 sometimes 2 washes for free. Or see if they have the smaller 60ml bottles you can buy.
I tried everything as well, someone said use coal tar shampoo to me, that relieve the itching for a few hours, but made my head worse. Baby shampoo didn't work either. I don't know what condition I had though, never found out, just found a solution!0 -
I know how you feel! For years, day in day out I would be resisting scratching my head, it was a greasey kind of large flakes, and often left bleeding/weeping. The flakes would shed everywhere, even a quick hug to my OH and it was all over him. I tried Nizoral about 2 months ago, and am still using on a weekly basis, and it has cleared! I still have a mildly itchy scalp, but I just resist scratching (I get itchy skin sometimes, just that type prone to excema), but the main thing is no intense itching and no flakes or scabs. I am pretty much against anything chemical in toiletries, but I don't care what is in that stuff, I was so desperate.
I used to put on teatree and also use apple cider vinigar, in the past, but both are messy, impractical, and didn't 'really' work. I use a natural shampoo with teatree in it now.
A friend of a friend has scalp problems, and swore by the Dead Sea Magic mud mask for scalp - but he had very short hair, I found this impossible to use on longer hair.
Sorry to hear you're still searching, but different things work for different people, so worth trying some suggestions.0 -
I'll give the Body shop shampoo a try thanks for that... I also used Nizoral for a few weeks but maybe I didn't give it long enough if the Ginger one doesn't work I'll try the Nizoral again thankyou both#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

SELSUN - get it from larger boots or ebay - both huby (huby much worse than me) and I suffer from this, and use it once a week & it keeps it away, huby thought he was cured so stopped using it ad it came back so it was DEFo this that keeps it gone.
I get mine from ebay as I don't go to boots often.
REALLY DOES WORK
Good luck clearing it up I know how awful it can be
What ever you use you need to keep using it, it will come back if you stop using the treatment shampoos.

Liz Earle or Philip Kingsley for itchy scalps. Both are really good, if you buy them from QVC you can use them for 30 days and if they don't work you can send them back for a full refund. Better than spending money on products which turn out not to help x:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

I followed the instructions, leaving it on for 5 minutes before rinsing, and doing it 2-3 times a week at first. Easy to overlook.0 -
I get this and have switched to SLS free shampoo and haven't scratched since! I use The body shop rainforest or happy hair and also soap and glory.0
