You need life insurance too, as the income from that will pay for child care/nanny so your partner can keep working.
I too had such when I wasn't working and my kids were small. It started out around 100K as I wanted the income to pay for a nanny not capital which would be shared by them when they got older. You just need enouogh to pay for child care til age 16 I guess. Now they are 17-20 I am thinking I may stop it after next year as they won't need 'looking after' although you'd be surprised at how much looking after I still do! My insurance isn't needed to guarantee our mtg, but if you end up with th ehouse in your name you will need some too for that.0
