Cheap'ish luggage? I dont know if soft or hard cases are better?

I've used both and found the hard case has fared better than the soft ones.. the one I bought 8yrs ago has lasted me well but I did pay a lot of money for it.. I found cheap soft cases just either tear , collapse or just get badly damaged.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
