Tax and two jobs

Hope this is the right board, because I don't necessarily want to cut tax, just ensure I'm not paying too much.

I have two jobs, one which I've been doing for 18 months, which is only a few hours a week and I don't pay any tax or NI.

The second job (classed as a second job with the tax man) is 15 hours a week, and I'm paying 20% tax and no NI.

My question is, since when added together, neither job add up to my tax allowance, will I get a refund at the end of the tax year?

Are you declaring all of the income and both jobs to HMRC?

Thanks Payless, that puts my mind at ease. I suppose it's a good way to save without being tempted to spend !

FYI you may be required to send off the P60s with a letter explaining rather than receiving a refund automatically.

You can always phone up your local tax office and ask for your allowance to be split though :)

you need to phone the HMRC and ask them to divide your tax free allowance between the two jobs so you pay no tax on either job and get a refund for this tax year

if you paid tax in the last tax year you also need to ask them to recalculate your tax for last year; they probably will ask you to send in your P60s for last year..(make sure you keep copies of them).
