CV help needed!

I am aware that this may be the wrong place to post this but I cant really see any other suitable boards so please feel free to move if necessary. I need to make a CV (Curriculum Vitae) to gain a short work placement. I have a rough idea of what to put on it but as it is my first one I am not exactly sure of all the content needed or the layout required so can anyone help and tell me everything that needs to be added or give me templates (these were on the forums before but I can no longer find them)? Thanks in advance!

There is no right or wrong answer to these things and it does depend to some degree how old you are and where you are in your career.

    On my CV I have

Personal details (name, address, telephone number, email & nationality)

Work experience - reverse chronological order - (To/ From dates, Company name, Job title, Duties & responsibilities & achievements - last 2 are bullet points)

Education - reverse chronological order (To/ From dates, Institute name, Level of exams, Results, Subjects)

Relevant Qualifications - reverse chronological order (Name of qualification, Result if appropriate, Trainers if appropriate, Date obtained)

Hobbies & Interests - very short list for me.

You should aim to have the thing take up 2 sides of paper - may people just starting out will pad out the education section (if relevant) by going into the details of what modules they took as part of their qualifications.

Another option is to add a personal statement section which gives you another chance (covering letter is the first place) to sell yourself, say why you would be suitable for the job and bring up any other relevant items like captain of the school chess team or runner up of young people in business competition etc - I personally am not a fan of these as they can come across as very arrogant and self promotional.

Biggest tip though, every believes that everyone lies on their CV.... if you are going to do this at least make it believable... I have received many CVs which have had total lies on it (qualifications that they didnt have - obviously they didnt realise that for the ones they claimed to have you could check on an online registry) and simply unbelievable (eg someone who was 17 and their 1 piece of work experience was a placement as part of their ongoing A level Business Studies but they said in the 3 month placement they personally delivered a project with £100m of benefit)
