Finding a new hairdresser.

Well, I moved a year ago, and tried two different hairdressers and felt equally unexcited by both...the second left my hightlights brassy.

I have moved to an area with a big choice in hair dressers but I've looked through a few windows and I'm yet to be excited by any of them. I'm downscaling from a lux hairdresser, and v. rarely have a cut, just highlights. (I'm prepared to trim my own hair).

I'm on the fence...should I try the local beauty college? I usually have three colours put through, are they happy to do that at colleges?

I know how you feel. Been back here 4 years and still not found a hairdresser I entirely trust. Tell a lie, I did find one but she went on maternity leave and never came back.

At my old place there was a hairdressers at the end of my road - she'd been in business for years and on the outside looked like an old blue-rinse brigade hairdresser but I gave her a go and was gobsmacked - she was brilliant, up with all current trends and techniques and turns out the at the local college she was one of the prized work-experience salons for the students to get assigned to. And as she was a small salon you knew it was going to be her doing your hair - perhaps ask at your college and see if they have a star salon like that. Also meant I didn't end up paying huge prices to cover the overheads of fancy interior design in the salon and city-centre rents either
  • I HATE trying to find a new hairdresser, I'm currently doing that at the moment as I've moved house and the first one I tried I wasn't that keen on. I'm also considering trying the college as I do resent the price that hairdressers charge but I'd be aware that the treatments take much longer than they would in salon and can only be in certain hours usually.
