Free safety assessment-New child

Hi

I have heard from some people that the council will do a free safety assessment after a new baby is born and provide you with stair gates etc. for the home. Does anyone know much about this and if so who would I contact. I am in Co. Down.

Thanks in advance

  • I would hate to think that a local council would waste anymore of taxpayers money by supplying people with stair gates !!!!!!

Are people so lacking in common sense these days, that they need a Health & Safety assessment to tell them if they need a stair gate, cupboard locks, plug socket covers !!!!!!!

If you have Surestart in your area they go thru the various safety aspects at appropriate intervals, they do give out starter packs of safety locks etc but not stairgates, not in my area anyway..

I do however think it is important that such safety checks and safety equipment are provided and would support such a scheme.

The need is definately there as unfortunately, half of the lowlives who are compulsively breeding, do not have the sense they were born with and the child's safety is bottom of the priority list.
You know the type, the ones who would spend their last £5 on a pack of "fegs" rather than a packet of nappies...

No idea why, the nappies give a better smoke and last for ages:)

But I do know what you mean about the production lines :o

Safety assessments are comon sense, and the OP should try the local charity shops for stair gates etc.... I gave all my stuff to the local Salvation Army, they said anything they couldn't sell would be passed on to those in need:T
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Plug socket covers - I'd never ever have them in my house after seeing this:

It does make you wonder though why it is still legal to sell something so potentially lethal!

Apparently plug in air fresheners are also incredibly unsafe and their overheating after being switched on and forgotten about has led to many serious house fires. Yet supermarkets sell millions of them every year.

And they stop kids playing in the school yard in the snow because of health and safety concerns! Nonsense on stilts as a wise man once said. ;)

I had bought a pack of the plug covers from Ikea just before my eldest was born. I was on a pregnancy website having a nosey and saw a thread warning about the plug covers. The first thing I did was throw them in the bin. I saw them in a childminders house and mentioned that they were more of a danger than the sockets themselves but apparently the NI Childminders Association demands that you use them.

I admit I have a plug-in being used at the minute. What's the problem with them as I don't normally use them?

surely a new born will feed ,burp, sleep and fill its nappy .not much safety needed for that.

I agree, where does it stop! Someone has to pay and for the life of me I cannot see why Anyone should have to pay for telling someone the blindingly obvious. As for supplying stair gates you can buy one in a shop.

We simply cannot afford this sort of nanny state.
