Advice needing - altering a Vera Wang dress

Hi everyone
I can't believe my luck that I managed to purchase a never worn Vera Wang wedding dress for £200! Ex shop stock and it's more vintage style and simply stunning. :j
However, the dress is sort of layered with a sewed in under skirt and is pulled in around the rose buds on the dress. And it's far too long. I'm worried that I will ruin the look and style of the dress having it altered. By my estimations I reckon at least 6 to 8 inches need to come off the bottom and that includes wearing 3 inch heels.
Any advice or suggestions? The dress would only need slightly altered around waist and bust, but way too long.:(
Thanks!
M

You do not alter a Vera to fit you, you alter yourself to fit Vera.
Sorry that this is ridiculously not helpful I just remember the quote from Bridewars, and thought it fit.
I'd take your dress to a seamstress and get a professional opinion.
congrats on finding the dress though. I'd love to get married in Vera Wang!!Thoughts become things!0 -

I can't help but I echo the above advice you need to be speaking to a seamstress. It's a shame Lindaatno9 doesn't appear to be active on here any more - this would have been a perfect thread for her help and advice!0

why not try to contact Linda at No. 9 direct?? Shes based in Yorkshire if thats any help to you. If not I would recommend you speak to a specialist wedding dressmaker or alterations lady with experience in wedding gowns, rather than someone less experienced.
Where are you based? I can recommend a lady in Berkshire who altered my dress.0 -
Likewise, I can reccomend someone in london.0

Here are the contact details on Linda's website: http://no9bridalcouture.com/contactus.aspx
She posted a little while ago to apologise for not being on here much cos she'd been busy. She hasn't been on here much since then, but I hope she hasn't given up on us!!
Congrats on finding an MSE Vera Wang, by the way!:T
