I booked travel insurance with World Nomads based solely on the fact that they were recommended by Lonely Planet.

However, the airline company crashed (dont worry, only financially) and all flights were cancelled.

World Nomads do not cover that eventuality. so be careful. It is not easy to get a refund even when you pay by visa and I would hate to say iof your chances if you pay by a debit card.

Do any travel insurance policies cover for airlines going bust? I've got an annual Flexicover Direct Policy through MoneySupermarket.com and booked flights with Am Trans Airlines from Oakland to Honolulu. ATA went belly up and Flexicover won't pay either the ticket costs (over £500) or the extra we needed to find for another flight (£250). I just hope Barclaycard Visa comes up with the cash!

I think you'd do well to find one in the present economic climate. I read somewhere the few travel insurance companies that had such clauses are removing them due to a number of high-profile "nosedives" by big airlines.

taburiente, are you referring to Oasis Airlines? My friend booked with them and was also stung when they went under a week or so ago. You can file a claim with the liquidators to get your cash back - check out their website. Whilst a full refund is unlikely, you should be able to recover a substantial percentage of the costs. The same should apply to you, equado...

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: There’s an article on the main site you might like to read that gives more information on this subject.

World Nomads is only useful if you intend spending a long time away from home (eg backpacking on a Gap Year).

I'd also check if the policy allows you to return home during that year as some cover you for one trip abroad only - so if you have to return home for ANY reason the policy stops

For most people an annual multi-trip policy which only allows so many days travel abroad on each occasion will be more suitable (and substantially cheaper)
