Hi there,
I am currently trying to create an excel spreadsheet to keep track of al my money and my monthly spending. But am finding it difficult to set it out. Can anyone who has done one give me any hints or tips? I was thinking I might have to it on different pages. Oh my head is hurting!!!

Hi Bellie,
I tried loads of different templates but didn't find any of them suited my particular needs. If you're confident with Excel I would suggest creating your own or using one of the templates as a starting point and tweaking it to your needs.
After much trial and error, my monthly spreadsheet is in 3 sections:
Income - wages, CB, credits, maintenance
Bills - payments that go out on particular dates
Cash - other cash or debit withdrawals for food etc.
These are also divided into 2 columns of Estimated and Actual, so I can see what I'm expecting to go out and move the figure to the Actual column once it's paid. This way I can see in the totals, how much is in my account, how much is still needed for bills yet to be paid, and how much (if any!) I have left over.
A bit convoluted I know, but I get paid in dribs and drabs so it helps me keep track of my comings and goings!
Good Luck

Ive done my own spreadsheet, one worksheet for each month of year. I note my income and my fixed outgoings each month (I dont bother to estimate expenditure for food etc). It shows me then what money I have available to spend each week. I then write down everything I spend (not cash withdrawals, just actual amount spent) and I can see the remaining weekly and monthly money going down with each new entry. Doesnt stop me overspending, but at least I can see where it went! At the end of the year I can total up expenditure on things like food, DVDs etc, and get a fright in doing so!0

I use MS Money (2004?) and I swear by it. The more I use it the more useful it has become. It takes a little getting used to before you get the most out of it, but after you've been using it for a while, then the stats you can pull out of it in visual form is a financial planning dream.
My favourite report at the moment? Current net worth - the line keeps going up! (towards 0% I might add though)Student Loan Company Ltd: 17,805 (2.8%) Overdraft: 500 (Interest free)
