Hi
I had a 2.5" HDD for work, and it broke in May. I took it to the local computer shop and he opened it, and made it so I could get the data off. Now Tesco are refusing to refund it, so I want to replace the broken bit.

Can anyone help me with what this bit is called so I can search for a new one please?!
It's the bit that you plug the USB cord into, that the HDD plugs in to....

Thanks for any help

You would struggle to find one, buying an external USB hard drive enclosure would be the easiest option.0

That's just a SATA to USB connector and for the price you would be better off just buying a new caddy. Getting just the board will be nigh on impossible when you can pick up a complete caddy for pennies.
Amazon - £2.990 -
You require a USB hard drive enclosure to fit the drive your local PC store should have one .
The bit will more than likely not be a standalone product .
Cost of the case is relatively cheap its the drive that costs .

Do the connectors come with the caddies as standard then?
I have a connector, but the guy in the shop didn't have a new case to sell me at the time0 -
The whole thing comes as part of the enclosure. The connectors are mostly bespoke to the enclosure which is why you'd likely have some difficulty tracking down the connector separately0

Yes the caddies have the card in them. I have 2 identical caddies and the cards are different so you cannot always just swap them. A new caddy will mean all your data on the hard drive will be available to you. I keep one of the cards handy so i can just plug it into a hard drive just like the man in the shop did.0

Awesome. Thanks everyone!0

caddies can start from £7 online, just get a new caddy and make sure its the correct type IDE (drive has lots of connector pins, about 40) or SATA (Drive has 2 L-shaped connector)0
