Wedding Packages Abroad

Dont know if there's already a thread about these but I just want to relay my experience about booking a wedding package abroad.
Just come back from getting married in Rhodes and although the wedding was well organised and beautiful the advice I would give to other brides who have booked a package which includes things like a cake, wedding car, bouquet etc is make sure you find out exactly what you are getting.
I made the mistake of presuming I would get a degree of manoeverability in terms of choosing my own bouquet, however once I got there I was simply shown a picture of a white bouquet and told this was what I had bought and if I wanted to even change the colour I was looking at an extra 20 euros, for a different bouquet it was anything between 60-120 euros. Incidentally I did stick with the allocated bouquet and it was actually very nice, but like I say there was no choice unless I wanted to pay extra. The wedding cake in the package stated 1 tier, which again I made the mistake of presuming was a reasonable size, however once I got there I was informed it was a 1kg cake suitable for around 6 people and if I wanted to increase the size by an extra kilo it was 40 euros . Finally my 'wedding car' was not a 'wedding car' as such, rather just a normal red car with ribbon on it.
So I suppose what I am saying is make sure you dont just presume like I did, and ask specific details about what is included, especially if you are on a budget and have not planned to pay out for any extras.

Hi Amus,
Hope you really enjoyed your wedding in Rhodes. Was this a package booked through a Tour Operator/Travel Agent or a independ wedding planner on the island? We are getting married there next year & have booked everything through a wedding planner out there & we have a completly free rein on what flowers & cakes etc we want.
Hope you enjoyed your wedding.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
Hi,
Yes it was through a wedding company over here who basically broker out wedding planners over there. Think they were called Meditteranean Weddings who actually organised it once over there. The day was lovely, just felt a bit misled and like they were trying to make even more money out of me once I got over there. Hope you have a lovely day next year its beautiful - just a word of warning though - the hill walking down to the chapel is a nightmare in heels!!!0
