Changing name with HMRC?

Can I just ask, if you have changed your name with HMRC, did you get anything through the post to confirm it?

I did mine online about a fortnight ago (1st wedding anniversary in 3.5 weeks, just never got around to it before lol!) and got an email from them saying they needed more info from me, so to ring them.

I ring them, get asked some security Q's, get asked what my new married name is so I give it to them, then get told, "thanks, that's all done for you now"???

According to what's online, you only have to change it with them the once and that will cover your tax, child ben and tax credits ~ is this right?

Because I've got no conformation, if I want to ring child ben or tax credits, I don't want to give my married name if they've still got me down as my maiden name.

What a ballache this is turning out to be ~ I knew there was a reason I hadn't done it sooner! :o

I got confirmation on email that it had been done, because I did it online and didn't need to give any more info. On saying that, I don't have any kids, so it was just my tax, not Child Benefit, or Tax Credits.

  • I also only had email confirmation, nothing in writing. I don't think they send confirmation in writing much as it reduces their costs.
:hello: Saving for that rainy day!
  • I haven't changed my name but when I changed my address on the HMRC website I got a confirmation email which took about a week to come through. Hope that helps.

Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")
