To cut a long story short, I was in Saino's this morning, and I saw a rat in the store running down one of the aisles, I informed the nearest member of staff, who told the manager, who basically wasn't interested, and didn't even bother to come and see me or where I'd seen the rat. So I've written a letter to the company (not the store, if the manager wasn't interested this morning, he won't be interested when he gets this letter) I know I can send it to the address on the webiste, but is there anyone I should address it to?
Not only do I think the managers handling of what happened this morning is poor, but also as the store has a fresh food deli and it's own bakery, I think this needs highlighting to someone above the store manager
Tx

The local environmental health department should also be informed.
Any sort of rat infestation is a danger to public health. For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

No, the manager would've been interested then!
Seriously, I would ring the environmental health and I would also ring Sainsburys head office and thell them what happened and that the manager wasn't interested - I might also be tempted to ring the local paper - I would imagine a story like that would decimate their trade for weeks!Jane

I have informed Environmental Health, apparently I'm not the first one to ring them today, I also rang Sainsburys, but was advised to put it in writing, which I had already done, so we'll see what happens now...Just bumbling along, trying to save some moneyCouldn't do it without coming here every day

It wasn't a rat, it was a hamster :rotfl:Some people create their own storms....then get upset when it rains!0 -

The store I work at in 2008 (before I started) they had a rat infestation & failed to sort it.
last year they were fined nearly £27,000 (£4,000 fine +£22,800 costs!!)0 -
Oh- 'Saino' = Sainsburys! I had thought there was a really rough store I hadn't had the misfortune of walking into! (Seem to end up in these places too often!).
I hope you get somewhere with this, the council do seem to take vermin seriously (especially rats!!) have seen rats near supermarkets near me but was about a year ago so wont name names, haven't been back to see if they have gone!
Its not so much the nibbled produce that worries me, bites and nibbles from things you can obviously see, its the rat urine which can dry and can't be so easily spotted. Many people trust their fresh foods are safe to eat even after being instructed to wash first. Many others consider a quick rinse under a running tap is enough to clean something but with rats its a whole different story... Hope they get this sorted!0 -
I expect the manager's 'can't be arsed' attitude is a major factor as to why they have rats in the first place. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
