Land Of Leather - Faulty Goods - What are my rights?

I purchased 2 leather sofas from Land of Leather about 4 years ago and also purchased a 5 year underwritten guarantee. The leather has started to peel in large patches and the underwriters of the warranty have refused to repair or replace. Where do I stand as a consumer now that Land of Leather no longer exists? Does anyone know? Im really angry about this as LOL encouraged me to purchase this extended warranty and basically its not worth the paper its written on as there are so many get out clauses for them...aarghh!!!!

On what grounds have they refused to repair or replace?
Have you been using the leather maintenance kit you were given with the sofa, to regularly treat the leather? We were given one from DFS so I'm presuming that a better retailer would have given them out too. I know it was a condition of my warranty that I regularly treated the leather with this cleaning and protecting solution stuff.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

It's a cruel irony that a Land of Leather warranty can be abbreviated as LOL

The warranty is owned by another company not Land of Leather so it should still stand. You have to be very tenacious with warranty companies to get results. You are right that there are always a lot of get out clauses and generally speaking they are not worth purchasing.
The care kits supplied by the retail shops are generally not very good as they usually consist of wipes which are a pointless waste of time and you would need about 50 packs to do any real good - I hope this is not in the clauses as theses products would not prevent this type of damage.
Hope this helps

I never got a leather care kit with my Land of Leather suite. Should I have had one?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Years ago I bought a crappy suite from CSL and got a free kit.
Didn't help but it was free.Space available for rent0 -
My point was that if you ARE given a care kit, you are expected to use it as part of the warranty. If you weren't given one it doesn't apply. So back to my original question - why do the company say they will not honour the warranty? What reasons do they give?DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

I believe DFS now just sell the care kits and give you a free sofa.0 -

Do I get nothing to pay for a year and four years to pay on the care kit?

We got our last suite from Harveys.
I think I'm paying for the cushions on interest free credit!0
