The liquid comes from the gin and the juice from the sloes....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Thanks for the reply but I read that for 70 cls gin etc. I would be producing 5 bottles of damson gin I was wondering if there was a chemical reaction which produced more liquid or if more fluid had to be added later in the process.:hello:0

Since the beginning of the year I have been saving the mini bottles of wine when I have one for my MIL. I don't drink full bottles unless we have company as DH doesn't like wine. MIL will fill the mini bottles with the sloe gin she makes so all family members get one as a stocking filler.0

i make alot of wine - so use corks as stoppers - but for a spirit based drink (like the op's sloe gin) i would have thought it would be better to have a screw top or a stopper that is easy to pop back on - because you wouldn't expect the whole bottle to be drunk in one session - and would keep better with a proper stopper, not a cork
all my neighbours / friends etc - keep nice bottles for me - so i use decorative screw top or stopper bottles (mostly spirit bottles) for storing flavoured spirits - i take of the original labels etc - and just make one of my own to make it look pretty (for gifts)
to k66 - the liquid volumn doesn't increase that much (not unless you use a sugar syrup - which i use for lemoncello)saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0 -

Lemoncello recipe please
In Italy you can buy 95% proof alcohol, but you cant here so I'm guessing you use vodka instead?0 -

yes i use vodka
i just use the rind from a load of lemons - for 70cl 6 or 8 lemons should do (unwaxed) stick the peel (no pith) and the vodka in an airtight container and leave in a dark cool place for about two months - make up a sugar syrup (to your taste) let it cool - then strain off vodka liquer and add the syrup - stick in a bottle - hey presto - lemoncello
