Part-Time Postgrad

in Cutting tax
I'm starting a Part-Time postgrad degree and was wondering if there were any tax breaks I'd be entitled to whilst being a student? I'll still be working full-time and my employer isn't being particularly accommodating, but I still want to do the course so I'm primarily using shift swaps and annual leave to be able to attend. In short, this means that I will still be exceeding the standard income tax allowance.
Can part-time students get a partial council tax exemption? Would I be entitled to any other tax breaks as a part time student? I'm also saving to buy property in the mean time so a few extra quid to the 'deposit fund' would help greatly.

Nope PT students dont get a reduction in the way that full time students do ( I am one and this is what I was told)
In London you cant get a student travelpass if you are part time ( sadly for me!)
You may be able to get a student bank account from your bank ( lager, lower interest overdraft)
there are many discounts you can get with the NUS card ( eg in high street shops)
I wonder if others will be able to tell you more, but I am not sure about any specific tax breaks if you are remaining on PAYE. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Thanks for the quick response.
I am in Glasgow and will be travelling to uni via car so a travelpass wouldn't really suit me. I wonder if it is possible to claim back travelling expenses? I'm sure I saw something about this for Scottish students somewhere but can't remember where?
I currently don't have (nor intend to have) any debt, so a bigger overdraft isn't really of much use to me, though I have previously made use of a graduate account after completeing my undergraduate degree. I will have to have a look at what the bank offer.
I'll grab myself an NUS card for some savings in the meantime!0
