I've recently just changed my job, and am awaiting my final wage and holiday pay. However I have received a letter over the weekend informing me that my previous employer has calculated my holiday pay at 49 hours, But i'm unsure if this is the right amount.
Our holidays ran Jan - Dec and I was entitled to 29 days a year. I worked 40 hours a week 5 x 8hr shifts which is what I was contracted too and I had only taken eight days when I left on the 26th August. I had been with the company over two years.
Does that sound about right? I thought i would be paid at least 12 days with would be 96 hours?
It's so confusing, it's quite a bit of money so i want to make sure I am going to get all I am (if I am) entitled to.

When you say 29 days a year do you mean 29 days including bank holidays or 29 days plus bank holidays.
If it included bank holidays your calculations should be made on 21 days per full year.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

34 weeks in 2011 up to 26 August
29/52 * 34 = 18.962 days
18.962 days less 8 = 10.962 days
10.962 * 8 hours = 87.696 hours
Do your 29 days include Bank Holidays? Did the 8 days you mention include all 6 bank holidays up to 26 August? Perhaps you are being paid up to 31 August so a full month's salary and including an extra bank holiday. Can you try the calculation again using the full month basis and see whether the hours then seem correct?0 -

Not really 21 days because 6 of this year's 9 bank holidays were during the period the OP was employed and the value of the bank holidays should be apportioned too.0 -
I was working in retail and bank holidays we're classed as a normal working day so yes I assume, that the 29 days included bank holidays0

Thank you for that calculation, it made it easier to understand. I've used it to work out my holidays minus the bank holidays and I got exactly what the letter said!
