Pirate party buys..

Hi... your post brought back very happy memories of my own pirate party when I was just 6 years old, more than 40 years ago! Its the only childhood party I have any memory of and it still makes me chuckle when I think of it! Here were 2 things my Mum did that went down a storm:
1) Birthday cake... she made a 'treasure chest' cake by cooking a rectangular chocolate cake and slicing the top off to make the lid. She then propped the lid slightly open with chocolate icing and had 'jewels' spilling out (old necklaces and junk jewelry that at the time seemed amazingly real) along with gold chocolate coins (quick snap up some left over from Christmas in the sales).
2) we all played 'guess the pirate object' (better for slightly older children as this might be too scary for anyone under six:eek: but we loved the thrill and screamed ourselves silly).... it was the talk of the school for weeks afterwards and I got no end of prestige for having such a fantastic game at my party!
Mum told us that in order to win some pirate doubloons (chocolate coins) we had to try and guess the pirate objects she would take us to by feel alone... if you got all the objects right you got a doubloon. She blindfolded each of us in turn and took us one by one into a room (where the other children couldn't see). The we had to feel objects like Pirate John's peg leg (old chair leg); Captain Hook's hook; parrot; cutlass etc etc. All went well until each child got to the last object and she carefully plunged our finger into an over-ripe tomato and told us it was the eye under the pirate's eye patch! Without fail every child screamed and tore the blindfold off! They were then sworn to secrecy until everyone had had a go.
Mind you, nowdays you might get sued for causing extreme emotional trauma! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Have fun!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”
