Royal Mail Casual no more!

Just been informed that as of 11th September my contract with Royal Mail is being terminated (just signed a new one until October 31st!)
I will now be employed by Angard Staffing Solutions which is owned by.....Royal Mail.

Does anyone here know any further details as I can't get anything from my employers.

  • Some further meat on the bones following my earlier post. Having now been taken on by Angard Staffing Solutions (Royal Mail owned) I now belong to a "pool" of staff that can be called upon to work where and when required. This is all fine so far IF your flexible.
The RM job for me was working nights at the local mail centre tipping sacks and sorting letters, packets etc. I was paid min wage Plus £1.77 night shift allowance for an 8 hour shift 22.15 to 06.15.
I had retained this job following on from last years xmas temp job when 10 of us were kept on and work has been steady through the year with 2-3 shift a week the norm. The manager knew he could call on us at a moments notice if the shift was going to be busy.
As of this week I have had two calls from Angard offering work from 11 until 3pm or 3 until 7, I asked about my old night shift and was told there was no work?
I have had to turn this work down as I also work part-time from 1 until 5 everyday.
It just seems unfair to suddenly lose out on much needed income, I know that the work is still there as I have spoken with my manager who is tearing his hair out trying to get people in at the last minute but can't as he needs to go through Angard who don't seem to be there at 9.30 at night!
I guess I needed a rant and just to see if anyone else is in the same boat either with RM or a similar job where trying to juggle 2 different jobs has hit the buffers.

this somewhat ties in with RMs removal of scheduled attendance payments for RM staff.
so now say you have someone on mon-fri 40 hours
they may have a sat duty as part of their duty 'tacked' on as scheduled attendance
now they can use yourselves in the pools to cover these duties for less wages, holiday pay etc
all just meat for the grinder as far as RM is concerned

the large sorting depots 2 me have had a big shake up ; they 3 agencies in ... the temps would come and go not turn up ... do half a shift and cause all sorts of problem with the posties ; looking on it now this is probably a better idea for the royal mail ... but not so good for you guys

Another top management brain child that should have been aborted before birth. I find it amusing that those that dream up these schemes don't work these hours themselves afterall if its such a good idea .................................

Its now been a month since my RM contact was terminated and my employment taken over by Angard Staffing Solutions (RM owned in house recruitment agency) since then I have worked one night shift of 8 hours IN A MONTH! My payslip arrived today and I was shocked to find that my hourly rate of pay has dropped by 2p to £5.93 and to add insult to injury I have lost my £1.76 night allowance that was paid from the outset when I started a year ago as a Christmas casual.
I have lost £14 per shift working for the same company doing the same job!
Please somebody tell me where the fairness is in this and do I have a leg to stand on to take this further?

there is nothing fair about it
RM set up Angard to circumvent new temp staff laws
from what I hear MCs are struggling to cover duties now
Delivery offices dont really get temp staff IME and are left to simply cope
