Asda Optical Lab - Word of Warning

Just a word of warning for anyone thinking of using Asda for their optical needs.

Firstly, hubby spotted some frames he liked whilst abroad in Europe. We got the frame number and after a few months he was going on about these frames so much I tried to source them. To cut a long story short the manufacturer traced the last pair to France and arranged to have them delivered to a local Dolland & Aitchison (wouldn't deliver to an Asda optician).

So, off we pop and buy the frames. As his prescription wasn't due for another 2 months we decided to just hold on to the frames. Got a price from D&A for putting in the lenses and we also asked in our local Asda and wow £160 cheaper than D&A.

Hubby has the eye test and prescription changed slightly so his lovely new designer frames sent to Asda lab to make.

After 2.5 weeks he gets call to collect. He is fuming . The lab have only gone and completely straightened the frame (they were a curved sporty pair and both D&A and Asda said they would be fine for varis). He went ape and I mean ape. They were sent back to the lab to re-shape. Six weeks later (bearing in mind Asda had our money all this time) he got them, not as they were originally but better so he accepted them. Needless to say complaint sent to Asda head office for which we still await a response.

Now... (sorry fo the long rant here) my own eye test is due.. Oh dear for the first time I need varifocals. Cannot be bothered to hunt for designer frames so choose a pair from Asda Jai Kudo or something. Pays our money and 2 weeks later get the call. Went round to collect and after she had cleaned them still couldn't see out of one eye, looked closely and the lens is completely scratched (as though someone has gone over with a scourer), so this pair are sent back.

Two weeks later they are ready again. Picked them up yesterday looked OK, however when I got home I noticed one of the lenses wasn't sitting in the frame right and also the arms of the frames were both badly marked.

So, back again this morn and this time asked for a refund.

Now I do feel for the optical staff in Asda as we have been told by many different staff we have dealt with that they have a big problem with their new lab (lens tech I think) and they are getting lots of complaints.

So, apart from putting in my complaint re hubby's ruined frames and not yet having a reply, I now need to add my complaint.

They may be cheap and by god they are cheap compared to some places I have phoned today but they are cheap for a reason.
