Windows 7 designed 'during massive p!ss-up'

There's a few things from a technical POV I preferred in XP to Windows 7, mainly the ability to double click the networking icon in the notification tray and be taken to the adapters properties without having to go through the network and sharing center like you have to in Windows 7.
Overall though, Windows 7 is far more stable than XP. Since migrating the domain to Server 2008/Windows 7, most support calls are user error as opposed to software errors. Even our new command and control system (999 call system for the fire service) runs on Server 2008 with Windows 7 clients.
The old system used Sun machines with some XP machines doing small tasks, one of the XP machines had 900 days uptime before it was restarted due to a software update.0 -

Interesting.
I don't expect anything from Windows. I'm a Mac user.0 -
If the OS and other programs never demanded more memory, or better processors, better graphics etc, then the hardware industry would go tits up.
Its therefore a good thing, so stop effing moaning.0 -

haha, did you just define 'yourself' by the OS you use?
I do always find it amusing when people describe themselves as a 'mac' or a 'pc' person.
It's a flipping computer, not a religion
(I use VMS/AIX/Windows 2008 servers, Windows 7/Vista laptops, Android phones, iOS tablets and have used Mac laptops in the past - I feel a little bad I've not used Linux for 10 years)
But... if you're going to wade into a discussion about windows, why bother if you're a 'mac' person.0 -
I didn't say it was the best, I was commenting on you saying 'you dont expect anything from Windows'. If you use a cash machine or a self service checkout you are expecting something from Windows. So what? doesn't make it a great O/S, just ubiquitous. The most popular technologies are not always the best.
If you placed a 999 call, you'd be expecting a Windows based network to deploy the fire engine from the station to your house.0 -
