Slower? I dont think so. Is windows 7 slower than XP? Really? I dont think it is, plus is operates smoother and can do more.

And as for the thickos comment, not everyone is a computer programmer and it would be a boring place if everyone was.

I think many people like to ask questions on here rather than search google because it is more like a normal conversation and if you dont understand something you can ask. If you find a topic asinine dont read it. Maybe go to a computer programmer's forum instead.

    Hi

I've got Windows 7 on my laptop and netbook. The laptop is much faster now compared to when it was running Vista. (Netbook previously had XP. I added Windows 7 plus another gig of ram and it's fast when I occasionally use it).

My laptop is also 5 years old and my score is 3.1.

i can see both sides of this.......

whilst in many ways it's good that computer and especially internet useage has grown exponentially over the last several years, it is a shame that (IMHO) the majority of users have absolutely no idea of how to maintain or even use with a degree of knowledge their pc.

However, as I'm sure Hammy will agree with, it has been good for those of us who repair computers, at least till the last couple of years where the plummeting price of hardware has almost made laptops disposable, and even if it's just a software problem many people would choose to go out and buy another rather than getting it fixed.

As an example, I've just sorted one out for £40-odd quid that PCW had told the owner was a dead motherboard and would cost £200 to fix. This kind of rip-off by stores who make their money by selling new lappys doesn't help. Do the maths for joe public - £200 to fix a couple of year-old lappy against £300 for a new one ??? If you had no tech knowledge, what would you do ???

    Rant over.....

Encouraging replacement rather than repair also has wide ranging environmental problems.

Pretty much the same as many car users then

Pretty much the same as white goods then.

Just put a new inbuilt double oven in (old was clapped after 18 years) - just a basic Hotpoint to tide us over until a refurb in a couple of years.

As soon as it was delivered, minutes, I had them on the phone to offer an insurance plan - NFI go away.

I rang up to "activate" the 5 year parts warranty:rotfl: and again got the hard sell. I did make the point if it wasn't going to last 5 years why bother selling it? £105 a pop for the labour, that should cover the parts nicely too then.

The guy did say they wear quicker than they used to - why? I know washing machines do (not why) as things move in them, pretty violently too, sometimes, but an oven........

Bring back valves in TVs, brought back happy child hood memories of rummaging in the spares box to see if you had one to fit.

On a par with screwing the xmas lights in and out until you found the faulty one, if the spare wasn't broken.

Kids just don't know they are born.

You don't need to be a computer programmer to solve the never ending list of really simple questions that get asked on this forum day in day out that can be answered by a 10 second Google search.

And yes, Windows 7 IS slower than Windows XP on the same hardware.

I blame lazy programming, and the reliance on massive amounts of cheap memory.
