Higher Tax relief on Pension

in Cutting tax
I am a 40% tax payer and last year paid in £3895 (4868) with the 20% tax relief to a personal pension.
The additional tax relief i get on this is reflected in my tax code notice. Is the amount extra relief i should get just simply 20% of 3895 or 4868 or is it more involved.
any help much appreciated.

you have contributed 4868 gross to your pension
so you are entitled to 40% tax relief on 4868
you already have 20% back as you actually paid 3895 so you are entitled to reclaim 20% of 4868 back from the HMRC0
