How about cooking him something, setting the atmosphere, making it really special, and then, how about getting him a knife and fork ~ you could use ones you already have or get some plain silver coloured ones quite cheaply from wilkos and have them engraved with his initials or date of birth or a word that means something to you both, then wrap them up and pop them on the table before you eat!

Sounds like a bit of a strange idea I know, but my hubby loves huge and I mean huge bowls of cereal! One year I bought him a pasta bowl to eat his cereal out of and had a spoon engraved for him and he loved it, it's special and funny and he still goes on about it!

    Logical...oh yes!
This is why I've been having such trouble...I am certain somewhere in his ancestry he is descended from Vulcans so have been trying to think more in the way of fun and daft than over-emotional (besides, I think one thing he definitely would like for his day is to not be drowning in his missus's emotions for once!!)
I might try to find a second hand scalextric from somewhere that we can customise together and soup up or start collecting some bits for making a remote control car from scratch (rather than a kit which is expensive and not as much fun - I may be a girl, but I was brought up as a tomboy..!). We've been talking about doing something like that for ages so that could be a part of it.

  • Have you got any tv studios near you? There might be a good comedy prog being recorded you could go and watch for free, also the Comedy Store do free tickets. Have you seen on the freebie board that if you test drive a kia you get £20 M&S vouchers, if you can't drive get a friend too who would give you their vouchers and if there's nothing for him, get yourself some nice underwear (ultimately for him).

Is there many members of his family or friends around that you could get a good selection of photos from and make him a book, or make a memories book for the time you've been together. You can get a cheap enough photo album from wilkinsons or poundstretchers.

Whenever my hubby does anything for me, its usually the cost free ones that I appreciate the most as they take much more thought, although once in while he might need prompting. He's good at running baths for me with candles etc, but I must admit when he turn on the cd player and put the song we danced to at our wedding it did make me blub!

    hi Lynds

aaaaah - he sounds lovely - can I place my order now?
(no rush - have to get rid of mine first - :p )

If you're not already a member, it might be worth joining your local freecycle group. Don't know what the individual policy for your area is - mine likes you to 'OFFER' something first before asking for a 'WANTED' but you might find a scalextrix or similar being offered.

Oh, and bloomin freezing - really sorry but I've just had a vision of you dancing to...... 'the birdie song'. I'd blub too.....

  • 'The Birdie song....' Interesting. Dread to think who's weddings you've been to but that certainly wasn't played at mine! :-)

  • I know this may sound soppy but depending on your B/F he may like it?

Try and get lots of pictures of him through the years, age a kid, teenager, adult with mates, on holidays of you and him and then make a collage and put them into a big frame? Its as cheap as getting the frame and time to get pictures?

I got one for my birthday and its hung behind my PC at work to remind me of all my top memories of lads holidays and of course my G/F!
