Bad Breath

How do you know you have bad breath if no one tells you?

I read that you yourself get so used to it that you cant actually smell it

Reason Im asking is the past few months Ive been living with a temp crown which has been replaced twice because of over zealous cleaning - Id get food stuck, get out the floss and interdent brushes and work away and find Id break bits of the crown off and finally of course they fell off. Come the end the end the dentist said no more flossing around the temp crown - but I got bad breath ( hubby told me:eek:)

Today I finally got the new crown and the taste and stench when the temp was removed was eye watering. Im now absolutely paranoid Ive got bad breath still. Ive brushed, flossed, used the cordysol three times today so far and my dentist dont a thorough clean of the stump and surrounding teeth before fitting the crown but still Im sure I can still taste "bad breath"

Ive no one to ask to have a sniff ( hubs back away to work for a month) and Im meant to be going out later on and tbh Im petrified of opening my mouth to anyone

Lick the inside of your forearm , let it dry a bit and sniff. That will normally tell you if you have a problem.
  • Cup your hand over your mouth, breathe and sniff, generally works too! Just take mints/chewing gum/breath spray out and about with you to take whenever you feel paranoid.

No don't take mints unless they're sugar free. Mints are the death of teeth one polo type mint contains a couple of spoons of sugar and sucking them just lets the tooth bathe really efficiently in a sugary soup.

Cupping and smelling rarely works as the volatile compounds that cause bad breath are difficult to capture in this way. Liquid saliva holds all the muck much better.

Mouthwash/breath spray often makes bad breath worsens alcohol containing mouthwashes dry the mouth out and saliva is really important to wash away and neutralise bacteria.

Sugar free chewing gum is excellent as it stimulates saliva flow.
  • Salt washes are great for oral hygiene. A little salt in warm water, and gargle twice a day. A natural antiseptic.

The best thing I found was an oral irrigator. Its ace and my mouth feels SO clean. I can feel it washing out all the nasties and bad tastes/smells from between my teeth and under my gumline. Its ace around my implants (accident broke my front teeth)

I bought one on offer @ amazon because i was not sure if it would be something that i would use a few times then go to the back of the cuboard....

    No fear.

    :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
I often start the day with a spring of rosemary with boiling water poured over it to make rosemary tea. Its meant to be very good for bad breath...which I assume I always have. :) Its an acquired taste...when I started this routine I thought it was vile, now I miss it when I don't have it.

So far the licking of the arm is indicating I dont have bad breath :T

But Im still not convinced :(

Shame you cant get a dip stick test or something :)

Anyway Ill see how it is the next few days, If I still think Ive the bad breath I guess Ill be heading back to the dentist make sure theres nothing else happening ( although I did get my check up and got the all clear)

There is something called a halimeter which is a really expensive way of measuring the compounds which cause bad breath which your nose will tell you for free. Some dentists use it to give people a filip to their oral hygiene. The smell from your temporary would be all the gunge collected around it. Now you have the real thing and can floss you should be fine.
