Help! Had carpet fitted today and have adhesive stain from parquet floor

Options
Had a brand new carpet fitted today - cream of all colours. The room used to have those parquet floor tiles - we took all those up and the floor had this sticky brown gluey substance on it.

Anyway, when I was moving the bed back, some of the brown glue must have been stuck to the bottom and now I have a huge mark in the middle of the carpet.

What do I do? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Vicki

Yikes, do you mean the self stick lino type floor tiles?

We had those in the kitchen once and I had to remove all the glue by hand!!

Anyway, if you do mean those, then I used lakeland sticky stuff remover to lift the glue, and it did work - I don't know if it'd be ok for you carpet, but you could give Lakeland a phone and ask them - it's only 3 or 4 £ a bottle and very havdy for lots of things.

Did you lay you carpet directly on top of the old glue?

    I know...I could cry!!!

They put the underlay on top of the gluey stuff. Then laid the carpet on top of that. My stupid fault, should have thought to clear the underside of the bed.

Thanks for your suggestion - will try giving them a call. Fortunately I have quite a lot of leftover carpet - so I can muck about on that first to test for colour fastness etc.

    Thanks

  • If it won't come out, check to see if you have accidental damage cover on your household contents policy. If you do, make a claim. They will probably send professional cleaners out first, but will replace it if it doesn't come out. Check your policy excess as well though, to make sure it is not too much. If it is £50 or £75, it will be cheaper than buying a new carpet!

Unfortunately I took the money saving a little too far and decided to do away with the accident bit of the policy....
