Maternity Pay

Hi everyone,

Just wondered if someone can help me.

I went on maternity leave on 31st January this year. I get paid monthly, on 28th of each month from work and got the 90% for the first 6 weeks then onto maternity pay.

I know I get this maternity pay for the first 9 months then it stops so that will be coming up soon.

I just wondered if someone can advise me what payments I have left i.e. when will my last payment from work be just so me and my partner can plan ahead.

Thanks :)

  • I'd imagine the best person to ask would be the payroll person at your company.

  • Hi all,

Just wondered if someone can help me with the below. I now at the end of my maternity pay from my employer but am sure it has been correct when I've looked at the total amount I've received.

I've put below what I should have got and put in red what I actually got, can anyone advise? Think I have been taxed on it - is this right?

    Period Beginning 29 January 2011 and ending 28 February 2011 £1,762.93 £1376.76
    Period Beginning 01 March 2011 and ending 28 March 2011 £928.84 £801.43
    Period Beginning 29 March 2011 and ending 28 April 2011 £567.34 £564.04
    Period Beginning 29 April 2011 and ending 28 May 2011 £551.70 £551.70
    Period Beginning 29 May 2011 and ending 28 June 2011 £570.09 £570.09
    Period Beginning 29 June 2011 and ending 28 July 2011 £551.70 £551.70
    Period Beginning 29 July 2011 and ending 28 August 2011 £570.09 £570.09
    Period Beginning 29 August 2011 and ending 28 September 2011 £570.09 £570.09
    Period Beginning 29 September 2011 and ending 28 October 2011 £551.70 £551.70

By my calculations there is a £517 difference but is this because of tax or something?

An help is much appreciated. Thanks

SMP is treated in exactly the same way as normal wages so it is liable to tax and national insurance as your wages would be. Cannot check exactly if correct amounts as you have not given details of tax code NI rate or previous earnings but certainly looks about right.

Ok thanks for that Chris, just wasn't sure if they taxed the first 6 weeks pay or not
