I wanna - find a talk radio station...???

Started new year with new intentions and so far have failed miserably :(

I'm addicted to tv (yes! even daytime tv :o) so I was thinking about listening to radio instead cos at least then I've got no excuse not to get on with stuff that desperately needs doing...

I used to love listening to Talk Radio when it first started then it went over to sport, sport and more sport. So does anyone know of any other stations in Midlands? I would like a radio station that has emphasis on talk cos if I'm in the middle of something and getting stressed with it then having music on just seems to make it worse...

So anyone got any suggestions - please? MC

The only ones that I can think of are Radio 4 and Oneword (only on DAB and Digital TV). I have never listed to either though.

I was thinking I might need to invest in a digital radio but in the meantime do you know if Oneword is available on Freeview or is it only satelite digital??

  • Try Radio 5? OK, OK, theres live football commentary etc, but when thats not going on it is entirely talk (mostly current affairs etc), and no adverts aside from BBC's own adverts.... I like Simon Mayo and Anita Anand's shows.
I agree, its certainly better for my productivity to have the radio on in the background! :)

A lot of the BBC's local radio stations are mainly talk based and use music just as a link.

Here's the full list of stations. Some you can listen to on your PC.

from 10pm every night until 6 in the morning theres no sport on talksport. usually james whale then ian collins through the night and at the weekends its george galloway and mike mendoza. oh and at 10am until 1pm jon gaunt is a sport free zone as well.
five live is through the night is pretty good as well, usually no idiots calling in just good news reporting.
  • Radio 5 Live is on MW 693 or 909 and is a great talk station, sport tends to be on from 7pm - 10pm (ish). I love my DAB radio because I like my sport though and it's great for listening to 5 live.
  • The best talk radio station is LBC 97.3 especially Clive Bull @ 10pm-1am.
