Self employed VAT vocational training query

Hi,

I'm currently a self-employed flying instructor/commercial pilot. I am wanting to increase my career prospects by doing some further training by completing an instrument rating (further vocational training). I already hold a commercial pilots licence and am wondering if it is possible to reclaim the VAT on this further training (the VAT alone for it would be about 2500GBP). The training itself would be self-funded. If needs be I would be happy to become VAT registered for it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You can only reclaim VAT if you are VAT registered, which means you will have to start charging all your clients VAT, and you will need to start preparing VAT returns. Only you can weigh up if it is worthwhile for you.
