Sunday Pay

Hello all,

I have had a part time job in retail since 2005, working weekends only. At the time of signing the contract in 2005, Sunday and all Bank Holiday pay was pay and a half and this is still the case.

I am currently in the process of adding an extra day onto my contract and will therefore have to sign a new contract with my company.

My employer stopped paying time and a half (for Sunday and Bank Holidays) for all new employes joining the company earlier this year.

Since I am singing a new contract, will I still continue to receive time and a half for Sunday shifts and Bank Holidays?. Although I am not a new employee, I am will be signing a new contract and just want to make sure I dont loose time and a half on Sundays and Bank Hols.

Thanks!

I would think that it would very much depend on what the new contract says.

My understanding of this is that you are NOT a new employee joining the company but are varying the terms of your contract.

So I would expect your new contract to include your original hours and your additional ones with the same T&Cs.

  • you won't know till you see your new contract. Nobody can answer it unfortunately as it's all down to your contract; just make sure you check it before signing and if it's not showing as time and a half, ask them to modify it as per your agreed rate. No guarantee that it'll work or they'll agree to pay it you but you don't know till it happens.
