Thanks everyone, I've got a lot to think about.

No SarEl, no illegality involved, no police.

I'd considered resigning to be honest but spoke to friends who advised as you did, that resigning whilst under investigation would be noted on references anyway, so may as well make the most of the higher wage coming in for now.

Not so sure now, because it's the uncertainty of the future that worries me most and I think I would be happier knowing where I stood regarding future employment sooner rather than later. And I NEED to be doing work of some kind for my sanity.

I'll ponder over the weekend and make a decision for Monday. Thanks all for being helpful and not too cross :o

Nobody really gets cross at stupidity - there but for the grace of God... People get annoyed at being lied to or expected to swallow crap! You told the truth, you didn't make excuses - most people here respect that.

This may be a daft question, but wouldn't you be resigning because you've been offered another job???

(it would save them having to carry out an investigation would it...?)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
