Gov't subsidized childcare?

OK... first, I don't qualify for ANY benefits, as I am not a UK citizen. My husband, however, is. And, he was talking about some sort of child care benefit. Like, day care or preschool or something. He doesn't really know what it is, I don't think. I told him that I would post here and ask.

What sort of things are there, and where can he find out about them? Thank you!

the child care element of tax credits may be a goer. give them a ring. i dont have their number to hand unfortunately.

There are several things he could be thinking of.

Firstly, there is the childcare element if you are in receipt of working tax credits. I don't know what the income threshhold is to be able to claim though.

Secondly, there are childcare vouchers that you can get from your employer if they are signed up to a scheme such as Busybees. There is a sticky on the families board about them. Basically you can get paid these vouchers from your wage packet each month. The first £242ish is tax and national insurance exempt, so will be taken out of your pay first, then the tax and NI is deducted.

Thirdly, there are free nursery places for children of (I think) 3 years and upwards consisting of five 2.5hr sessions per week. You can either get these via a private or state nursery.
