  • at least you are owning up that you have a problem thats the start of the long road well done ;)
  • have you made a budget? When you have take out the cash from the bank and leave your cards at home, also start a spending diary that way you see where you are spending money.
  • Hi & welcome.

I am fairly new myself so would only suggest you keep a diary of everything you spend. This would include things that cost pennies to things that cost a lot more.
You may also want to write down how you were feeling at the time.

This may help you work out why you are buying impulsively.

not moralising, but from purely personal experience I spent years convincing myself everything was ok if I just cut down a bit. I can be very convincing :(
My apologies if this doesnt apply to you!

Would it help you to try and add up everything you owe and your outgoings each month in an SOA? We could suggest how to cut back and or pay back your debts from there/

Hi and welcome...if you post your SOA we may be able to help you there and also a spending diary is an absolute must..it really does show where all those spare pounds disappear too

many of us are here at least in part through impulse spending. My weakness is "bargains". Im trying hard to wean myself off the bargain :)

one thing I had to do was soa to see what was going where
then I had to retrain myself out of the impulse. the problem with "bargains" is that they wont be there later. But I had to resist.

"Do I want this or do I need it"

I need something only if my health & welfare would be curtailed, will I die or get ill if I dont have this? Will I lose my job if I dont pay this"

this has helped me massively over the last few months.

Oh, and in case you are confused - SOA = Statement of Affairs = monthly budget. There is a great explanation here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280

Even if you don't want to post all your information on a public forum, it's a good idea to sit down and get all the figures together to put one together for yourself - it can be a real eye-opener to realise exactly where your money is going.
  • You might like to try seperating your accounts - It has really helped me to have different accounts for bills, also online savers which get monthly installments for insurance, MOT, birthdays etc. then a second current account for guilt free spending money. only works if the you leave the cedit cards at home!... under the bed.... in an electrified locked box. :D

    Hi there
Just a quick question, are you in debt through impulse spending? you say you have a good income, but do you have debts?
Everyone here will give you the support you need, but we do need to know your situation,I know it's hard to write it down, but it will help you to stop the spending as you will see where your money is going.
