Murder Mystery Party - help!!

Options
Does anyone know where I can get a cheap Murder Mystery Party kit?
They seem to be about £16 on Amazon
Has anyone organised/attended one of these before? Was it worth it?
Can you recommend a good one to buy?

WHSmiths have them in my local at all half price in the sale at the moment.
I do these a few times a year, they go down really well. Good fun and worth the full price anyway. I only got invited to 3 last year though, so am guessing that some people find them hard work.............but they are not!
Worth every penny and every minute.........imo
We normally go the whole hog and hire fancy dress and have a 'proper' dinner party as well.
They all run along the same lines, so its just preference to the title you chose.

We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars........................

  • We have done a few of these, the first one or two were the best, as after that it became a bit boring. Make sure everyone involved is willing to fully take part and that you are interested in the subject matter, one we did was "Murder in Transylvania" (scuse the spelling!) that was such a laugh. You will get one off ebay quite cheap, it depends what format you want as well, some older ones have a tape, some cd, some dvd. We usually do dinner and the game comes with a reccomended menu, but try and do as much of it as you can before your guests arrive or else you will be in and out of the kitchen instead of listening to the conversation and picking up the clues!! I would have given you my old ones but have passed them on to other friends, sorry. Good luck and have a lagh!!

you can find ones to download free on the internet with a little searching.
My daughter did one of these and it was just as good as the bought one she did but does take a lot of preparation work.
Lots of old ones end up in charity shops but seems the shops near me have realised how expensive they are new.

Warning - don't buy US ones.

We do these regularly and one that fell flat was one we were given by some US Relatives

Playing it back home in England we all missed a MAJOR clue which was based around the fact that certain things could not have happened when the suspect said they did BECAUSE OF TIMEZONE DIFFERENCES (the plot was set near a time zone boundary within the US ... but of course that was not revealed and none of us taking part were sufficiently clued up about US Geography and time zones to spot the "obvious" clue.

Anyway, I'm digressing ... having done about 20 of these we have found this brand to be by far the best

[this is example only - i'm not recommending you buy from this place! Although equally i'm not saying they are dodgy - never used them acrtually!]

The brand is BV Leisure but they can be immediately identifed by the way
they write "Murder Mystery Party" on their games

The brand we have foiund most disappointing is "Murder A la carte"

    http://www.murdermysterystore.co.uk/product.asp?item=74

and I would tend to avoid these ones.

I have bought several on e-bay in the past (for around £10 incl P&P)

    hope this helps

I've had Murder in Transylvania too, and will second how much fun it is.
On my 18th I also had Murder in the West, which is a funny one too. Each of these sets cost me £20 in a local fancy goods shop.

    Have fun!!
  • i organised one on 29th dec for my birthday

    i brought this one:-http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=558502

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have seen this type of game for hire from Fancy Dress Shops - not sure of the price though compared to buying one.

Also they sometimes crop up in charity shops - may be worth enquiring if you have any near you
    That's Numberwang!
  • TK Max had them for about 9.99 a while back

does anyone have any opinions on the death by chocolate one?
I see it's by the same people that do the "a la carte" games which someone said were not very good.
What about the las vegas murder mystery?
I would like to do the transylvannia one but think it would be better for halloween.
    many thanks!
