Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me?
I am looking to make my own houmous and the recipe calls for Tahini.
I have checked my supermarket and a jar is showing as around £1.99.
Does anyone know if I could get this cheaper elsewhere??
Many thanks

You can make it, this is the first recipe that came up

If you are thinking of making houmous often then I would get a jar. That seems to be about right, price-wise, but you only need a spoonful or two each time so it lasts for ages. You can make it without tahini, but I think it tastes much nicer with it added.0

Try Holland & Barratt I know they sell tahini but I can't remember how much it is there. I get mine from the local Turkish grocer as they have a wide selection (I get one made in the Lebanon) and it's lots cheaper than the supermarket0

Any health food shop will have it, usually they will stock several different types. I normally use a light tahini for homous the darker ones can be a bit overpowering.0

I tried making houmous with tahini but thought it was expensive. Tha old style board had a thread on this and posters said they made it without the tahini so i tried it and we actually all prefer it without the tahini.0

I would buy it anyway, it'll only work out to a few pennies per portion of houmous.
Otherwise, Nigella has a recipe for houmous with peanut butter on her web site and she says she prefers it. If it's good enough for her....
